On Wednesday, an SUV loaded with explosives detonated in the Sadr City neighborhood of Baghdad, killing at least 45 people and wounding more than 65 others. Sadr City is predominantly Shiite Muslim, and Sunni extremist group the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the bombing in a statement posted online. The explosion was outside a beauty salon during rush hour, and most of the dead are women. Security has improved in Baghdad in recent years, but violence and sectarian strife are still common. In February, twin bombings in Sadr City killed about 70 people.
