Seth Meyers recaps, annotates Donald Trump's 'dystopian' acceptance speech

Seth Meyers did not want to wait until Friday to weigh in on Donald Trump's big speech at Thursday's Republican National Convention, so he went on live Thursday night. He began his "closer look" with a recap of Wednesday night's convention — "because, let's be honest, we're still putting tonight's jokes on cue cards" — focusing on the non-endorsement of Trump by Ted Cruz, to hearty boos from the convention floor. "Is there anyone more comfortable with being hated than Ted Cruz?" Meyers asked.
Then he moved on to Trump's big — long — speech. After daughter Ivanka Trump's sunny introduction, the big question was how Trump would top his spectacular entrance on Monday, Meyers said. "Would he arrive delivered by drone, or would he arrive wearing Ted Cruz's pelt? Instead, he decided, with some inappropriate father-daughter touching." As for the substance of Trump's speech, he made one thing abundantly clear: "We are currently living in a dystopian nightmare," Meyers summarized. "Trump talked about America like he was pitching a post-apocalyptic show to the Syfy network." He ended with some thoughts on Trump's hair-raising interview with The New York Times, and you can watch below. Peter Weber
