On Tuesday, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack at Ohio State University on Monday at its main campus in Columbus, Ohio. A post on the terrorist group's news agency Amaq said the suspect, a Somali refugee who was a U.S. citizen enrolled at the university, "is a soldier" of ISIS, Reuters reported.
Abdul Razak Ali Artan, 18, drove a car into pedestrians Monday morning, before exiting the vehicle and slashing people with a butcher knife. Eleven people were injured, though none fatally. Artan was shot and killed by a university police officer.
Though White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Tuesday the attack may have been "motivated by extremism," the investigation remains ongoing. The Washington Examiner also noted ISIS "has a history of dubiously claiming responsibility for attacks in the United States despite never making contact with the individuals involved" or offering any other form of support.
