House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has reportedly decided against running for re-election in November, Axios reports based on his conversations with unnamed "confidants." While Ryan does not have an obvious successor in the House, his likely replacements are Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), as Politico observed earlier this week amid rumors that the speaker would not return to Congress next year.

"Friends say that after Ryan passed tax reform, his longtime dream, he was ready to step out of a job that has become endlessly frustrating, in part because of President Trump," writes Axios.
