Former FBI Director James Comey will be on The Late Show Tuesday, and Stephen Colbert previewed his interview by placing himself in Comey's interview with ABC News on Sunday night. There are twists!
"Let me tell you how seriously I'm taking tomorrow night's interview with James Comey," Colbert said on Monday's Late Show: "I read his book. Last night. I also hunkered down to watch his warmup interview with George Stephanopoulos." He ran through some highlights of that interview, suggesting that after Comey's descriptions of President Trump's appearance, "for his next job, he should go from Justice Department to judge on Ru Paul's Drag Race." Comey explained he felt free to announce the reopening of the Hillary Clinton investigation, possibly handing the election to Trump, in part because he was "operating in a world" where Clinton beat Trump. "I was operating in that world, too, and I desperately want to go back to that world," Colbert said. "In fact, I've been crawling in the back of every wardrobe I can find."
He wasn't sure about Comey's comparison of Trump to a mafia boss, though, saying Trump just "doesn't seem tough enough." Still, "like la Cosa Nostra, Trump has appointed family members to key positions," Colbert said. "But unlike the mafia, none of his relatives are competent. It's all explained in the new movie, Godfather Part 4: Oops! All Fredos."

More than 10 million people watched the Comey interview, including Trump, who lashed out on Twitter all weekend, Jimmy Kimmel said on Kimmel Live. "The White House released all their attack dogs today," Kimmel said: RNC Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel, Kellyanne Conway, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders, all of whom trashed Comey. He had clips. Kimmel noted that in 2016, Sanders tweeted: "When you're attacking FBI agents because you're under criminal investigation, you're losing."
