SyFy developing Chucky TV show from series creator Don Mancini
SyFy is ready to be your friend 'til the end.
The network is developing a Chucky TV series from Child's Play co-screenwriter Don Mancini, per The Hollywood Reporter. Mancini, who also wrote all six sequels to Child's Play and directed the last three, revealed this project was in the works last year and said Tuesday it will be a "fresh take" that will "explore Chucky's character" but will still remain "true to the original vision." Channel Zero's Nick Antosca will also produce.
This project has nothing to do with the completely separate reboot of Child's Play that's being released by Orion Pictures this June and stars Aubrey Plaza. Mancini has not only not given that movie his blessing but has actively trash talked it, saying last year that his "feelings were hurt" by the studio's decision to make it without his approval. It's certainly an unusual situation in that reboots typically come after years of a franchise's inactivity, but Mancini was still in the middle of an ongoing Chucky series when the reboot was announced. He released Cult of Chucky, which follows in the canon of the previous six films, in 2017.

That movie, in fact, ended on a cliffhanger and left multiple plot lines unresolved, and although Mancini calls the TV show a fresh take, it will pick up where Cult left off, as he told Bloody Disgusting. The TV show doesn't yet have a premiere date, but with the movie remake set for June 21, get ready for a tale of two Chuckys sometime soon.
