Kristaps Porzingis is reportedly headed to the Mavericks

The New York Knicks are trading away their star, The New York Times' Mark Stein reports.
Kristaps Porzingis had a tense Thursday meeting with Knicks management, which "left franchise officials with the impression that he wants to be traded," ESPN reported. Minutes later, multiple reports showed that the Dallas Mavericks seemed poised to acquire the All-Star forward.
The Mavericks indicated they were "nearing a deal" to acquire Porzingis "in exchange for Dennis Smith Jr. and the expiring contracts of DeAndre Jordan and Wes Matthews," Stein tweeted on Thursday. The Mavericks would also "take on the contracts of Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee," Stein said.

Porzingis spent the last year on the bench with an ACL injury, watching as the Knicks fell to a 10-40 record. He reportedly expressed worries about the franchise's downward slide in Thursday's meeting ahead of a trade deadline. Porzingis was already slated to become a restricted free agent this summer, and The Athletic reported later that he would sign the Mavericks' offer then. Kathryn Krawczyk
