Trump's advisers reportedly want him to give up rallies for a while
President Trump's advisers want him to give up one of his very favorite activities — for a few months, at least.
As the 2020 campaign season gets started on the Democratic side, Trump is being advised to hold off on delivering his signature rallies for now, with the idea being that his "role as chief executive in dignified settings like the Oval Office and the Rose Garden will carry more weight with voters," Politico reports.
Advisers want Trump to focus on official White House events and private fundraisers for "the next several months," the report says, and this strategy also means cutting down on tweets about 2020 Democrats. The plan is for Trump to not begin 2020 campaigning until midway through the summer.

While Trump is reportedly comfortable with all of this and is making a "conscious effort" to "rise above the Democratic scrum," Politico notes it might be difficult for him to do so considering he recently turned a speech at CPAC into a two-hour campaign rally. Trump told the CPAC crowd he was going "off script" to riff on a wide variety of topics, including his 2016 election victory, because "this is how I got elected," and, "if we don't go off script, our country is in big trouble." He also held a rally just last month in El Paso, Texas.
In other words, don't be surprised at all if this new strategy doesn't wind up lasting very long.
