While overall crime is down in New York City, there's been a surge in hate crimes, with most targeting Jewish people, officials announced Tuesday.

Through June 2, the New York Police Department recorded 184 hate crimes, up from 112 in 2018. John Miller, the NYPD's deputy commissioner for intelligence and counterterrorism, said his office tracks online hate groups, and has noticed an increase in extremism rhetoric. "Within the intelligence bureau, we have several open cases regarding groups like this," he said.
