As of Wednesday morning ET, Facebook wasn't loading a lot of the photos on users' timelines. Twitter's direct messages weren't sending, or at least not immediately. WhatsApp users were reporting issues with sending and receiving messages. And Instagram wouldn't let users post photos for more than two hours.
The website downdetector.com mapped out that reports of service issues on all four of the platforms started around 9:30 a.m. Still, Twitter didn't post from its official account to acknowledge reported issues with its DMs. Neither did Facebook, Instagram, or WhatsApp, which are all owned by Facebook. The problem also seemed to extend around the globe, as a branch of Britain's National Health Service tweeted that it wasn't getting DMs and suggested people call with questions instead. Singapore's Straits Times also characterized the issues as a "global outage."
