Judge Judy is ending her show after 25 seasons — and starting a new one

After 25 seasons, Judge Judy's court is set to adjourn.

Judge Judy will come to an end after its 25th season, Judy Sheindlin announced during a Monday appearance on Ellen, Variety reports.

"I've had a 25-year-long marriage with CBS, and it's been successful," Sheindlin said. "Next year will be our 25th season, silver anniversary, and CBS, I think, sort of felt, they wanted to optimally utilize the repeats of my program, because now they have 25 years of reruns."

Variety, noting Judge Judy averages about 10 million viewers a day, called this "perhaps the most seismic shift to happen in the syndication business since Oprah Winfrey announced her departure." But Sheindlin explained she's not yet stepping aside entirely, as she's set to launch a brand new show called Judy Justice.

"The following couple of years, you should be able to catch all the reruns that are currently carrying Judy, and Judy Justice will be going elsewhere," Sheindlin told Ellen DeGeneres. "Isn't that fun?"

Sheindlin didn't provide any information about where Judy Justice will air or even what it actually is, but we can only assume it's not just a renamed Judge Judy but some sort of superhero show starring Sheindlin in the lead role, as the Judge Judy Cinematic Universe continuously expands.
