Stephen Hawking named in latest Glastonbury line-up

World-renowned physicist Stephen Hawking has been named on this year's Glastonbury Festival line-up alongside the likes of Kanye West, The Who and Foo Fighters.

While the big musical acts are performing on the Pyramid Stage from 24 to 28 June, Hawking will make a special guest appearance at the Kidz Field, billed as "a place of magic and wonder" for under-12s.

Other acts in the children's area, which is celebrating its 21st year, include magician Dynamo, stars of CBeebies and singer Mr Yipadee and his four-legged friend Wonky Donkey.

Hawking, whose life story was turned into the Oscar-winning film The Theory of Everything, has taken part in several musical collaborations recently.

He was sampled on the Pink Floyd track called Talkin' Hawkin' and covered Monty Python's Galaxy Song, starring in an accompanying music video in which he knocks over fellow physicist Brian Cox and flies into space.

Hawking also appeared as a hologram in Sydney last month, when he helped reassure One Direction fans mourning Zayn Malik's resignation from the band.

"My advice to any heartbroken young girl is to pay attention to the study of theoretical physics because, one day, there may well be proof of multiple universes," he said.

"It would not be beyond the realms of possibility that somewhere outside of our own universe lies another, different universe and, in that universe, Zayn is still in One Direction."

Details of what Hawking will be doing at Glastonbury are yet to be announced.

"Maybe he'll perform his Monty Python cover," suggests Time magazine. "Maybe he'll get Pink Floyd to perform with him. Or maybe he'll just regale the kiddos with his brilliant musings about the universe."
