Switzerland has denied a woman's passport application on the grounds that she is an "annoying vegan", The Independent reports. Nancy Holten (pictured above), an outspoken animal rights activist, irritated neighbours with complaints about cow-bells and piglet racing. However, she lives in an area where locals get a say in passport approvals and of the 206 people in the Gipf-Oberfrick community, 144 gave her the thumbs-down.

Teen locks herself in abandoned prison
A teenage girl was forced to call the fire brigade after accidentally locking herself in a jail cell inside an abandoned prison. Firefighters in Joliet, Illinois, spent 45 minutes breaking through a brick wall to free the girl, who had been exploring the closed facility with a friend.
Woman 'chugs beers, gropes paramedic in WalMart'
A teenager has been charged with a number of offences after she allegedly drank five beers inside a WalMart store, groped the testicles of a paramedic who was trying to help her and kicked a police officer trying to arrest her. Florida police were called when the woman reportedly told staff she was "drunk and needed a ride home" - and then started drinking the stolen beer.
