“Step off the grid” at Hotelito Desconocido, said Costas Christ in National Geographic Adventure. Located on a 31-mile stretch of “isolated beach” in southwestern Mexico, this ecologically minded luxury lodge is modeled after an indigenous fishing village. Guests who book themselves into the rustic resort should be prepared to trade “modern comforts for those of the natural world.” The bamboo bungalows don’t include TVs, phones, computers, or even electric lights. Instead, expect to enjoy handwoven bedspreads, freshly made cocktails, and “candlelit, chef-prepared dinners”—not to mention near-complete solitude.
