Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's visit to the U.S. Thursday to discuss climate change with President Obama marked the first official visit by a Canadian leader in 19 years. As part of a new pledge of cooperation in fighting climate change, Obama and Trudeau unveiled plans to reduce methane emissions and promised to play a "leadership role internationally in the low carbon global economy over the coming decades."

The visit, scheduled shortly after Trudeau was elected in October 2015, marks a turning point for U.S.-Canada relations. The announcements are to be followed by a state dinner that includes maple syrup.
