You may have noticed that lots of Republicans and conservative pundits are trying hard to avoid handing the GOP nomination to "demagoguing bag of candy corn" Donald Trump, Samantha Bee said on Monday's Full Frontal. But "the GOP establishment is in a pickle, because the only guy within striking distance of Casino Mussolini is someone they hate just as much," Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). She played a clip of Republicans saying how much they loathe Cruz, with Sen. Lindsey Graham being especially punchy. "So who is Ted Cruz, and why is he so hated?" Bee asked. Over the next four minutes, Bee documented Cruz's unpopularity dating back to high school, including scathing reviews (and footage) of his performance in The Crucible at Harvard Law. He wasn't much more popular during his early professional life. She did find, however, one group that does like Cruz: Dominionists, or people who want Christian control over the government and civic life (a group that includes Cruz's father). Still, even Cruz's merry band of supporters get divine notice of the junior senator's lofty future from preachers and Cruz's wife. So "the message is clear: Even God can't stand to have a direct conversation with Ted Cruz," Bee said. "We really are made in His image."
