South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) has accepted Donald Trump's offer to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, a person close to the selection process told The Washington Post late Tuesday.

The official announcement will be made Wednesday. Haley, the daughter of Indian immigrants, is serving her second term as governor, and if she is confirmed, the state's lieutenant governor, Trump ally Henry McMaster, will replace her. During the Republican primaries, Haley was not a Trump supporter, instead endorsing Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.
