Rita Ora has become the latest celebrity to experience an unexpected reaction to a promotional hashtag.
The 28-year-old pop star, whose chart-topping hits include How We Do and I Will Never Let You Down, tweeted this morning from Twitter’s Singapore headquarters, inviting fans to send her their burning questions using the hashtag #AskRitaOra.
Predictably, however, Twitter users immediately seized on the publicity stunt as an opportunity to flood the hashtag with questions which were probably not what the Anywhere singer expected.

This isn’t the first time Ora has been burnt on Twitter. In 2014, she teased fans with a promise to release a new song if her tweet received 100,000 retweets. Problem? “Ora deleted the tweet after it received fewer than 2,000 re-promotions,” says Digital Spy.
If it’s any consolation, the singer is far from the first music star whose attempt to engage with social media did not go as planned.
Little Mix once neglected to remove their social media manager’s comments before posting an Instagram caption, while a hashtag promoting an album by Britain’s Got Talent’s Susan Boyle went viral for the wrong reasons after Twitter users noticed the alternative reading of “#susanalbumparty”.
