Sunday roast burger: diners defeated by 5,000-calorie meal
No customer has finished Yorkshire pudding burger stuffed with meat and chips
A Yorkshire restaurant is challenging diners to wolf down a 5,000-calorie burger, which includes more than four pounds of meat, as well as gravy, chips and cheese.
As a tribute to its place of origin, gigantic Yorkshire puddings take the place of the traditional burger bun in the 'Yorkie Burger'. Piled in-between are two huge 20oz meat patties, two pounds of shredded chicken, and a stack of chips – all smothered in an artery-clogging helping of mozzarella cheese and gravy.
Those willing to take up the challenge at the Smokehouse diner in Wakefield have 30 minutes to finish the behemoth burger, to be washed down with a pint of milkshake. If they succeed, the £25 burger is on the house and the lucky customer will gain a place on the Wall of Fame.

So far, all ten diners brave enough to take on the challenge have met with defeat – something Smokehouse manager Michael Hewitt ascribes to the use of Yorkshire puddings instead of a bun. "The puddings are the size of a dinner plate," he told the Daily Mail. "There are too many calories in it."
The foot-high concoction contains twice the recommended daily calorie intake for a man, and takes 20 minutes to prepare.
Hewitt says that the gut-busting burger represents a mixing of cultures. "We went by the famous saying 'two nations divided by a common language' and we wanted to bring the old Sunday roast and American cuisine together." .
Hewitt told the Mail that the introduction of the Yorkie Burger had created a "fun atmosphere" as customers cheered on challengers. Despite the support, however, "the closest anyone has come to finishing it is a few chips left at the bottom".
