Woman arrested with homemade number plate her car
A 28-year-old woman has been arrested in New York state after allegedly driving a vehicle with a homemade registration plate. Amanda Schweickert was stopped after police noticed her car had no front number plate and that the one on the rear of the vehicle was a poorly made cardboard replica, painted to look like an official New York State plate (above). Schweickert was charged over the fake plate, as well as for driving with a suspended registration and without insurance.

Memorial ceremony held for slaughtered deer
Residents of Ann Arbor, Michigan, have held a "sombre and reflective" memorial service for 63 deer shot during a cull by local authorities. According to M Live news, the residents "offered prayers, sang songs and passed a heart-shaped memento featuring an image of a deer as they shared their thoughts and reflected". Authorities organised the cull due to an "overpopulation problem" in the city's parks that they say has led to a steep rise in the number of deer-related car accidents in recent months.
Residents asked to rename Katie Crotch Road
Officials from the town of Embden, Maine, are asking residents to allow the renaming of Katie Crotch Road due to the high cost of replacing its frequently stolen road sign. Local official Charles Taylor says it costs the town hundreds of dollars a year trying to keep the road signposted. "You put it up and in a week's time it's down again," he said. "Somebody takes it. You would think every dorm room in the state of Maine should have one by now."
