'Girls in the mirror' optical illusion baffles Instagram

There's nothing that gets social media going faster than a divisive optical illusion. Earlier this month, it was guess what's hidden in the wall, while last year it was "the dress".
Now there's a mirror image puzzle that has driven the internet up the wall. Photographer Tiziana Vergari uploaded this picture to her Instagram account but users are struggling to wrap their heads around how many girls are in this picture.

So far, there have been 4,000 comments on the picture and guesses range from two to 14. Vergari's cryptic captions – "Same but different" – have hardly cleared things up.
"What is the answer? It's been driving me crazy," one viewer wrote.
"I see six girls when you look at the bracelets," said another, while one more posted: "There's clearly four."
The answer? Vergari finally came to the rescue to put Instagram out of its misery. The picture contains just two girls, thought to be her daughters – and not, it turns out, multiple sets of identical twins.
