Sir Philip Green and his wife Lady Tina are the only power couple to have seen their wealth decline in the past year, according to the yet-to-be-published Sunday Times Rich List.

They saw their fortune decline by £433m, says The Guardian but with combined assets of £2.8bn, they still rank as the fifth-wealthiest husband-and-wife duo.

"The value of Green's Arcadia stake has also dropped because of falling sales, reduced assets and a ballooning pension deficit," says the Guardian.

The Greens are joined on the list by the likes of Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken, the daughter of Heineken boss Freddy Heineken, and her banker husband Michel de Carvalho, together with Gucci owner Francois-Henri Pinault and his wife Salma Hayek.

Ernesto and Kirsty Bertarelli, who sold biotech firm Serono and have an ownership stake in pharmaceuticals company Santhera, are the UK's richest couple with a combined £11.5bn.

Robert Watts, compiler of the Sunday Times Rich List 2017, said: "Starting a business with your other half may not appeal to everyone.

"A bit of pillow talk about balance sheets wouldn't suit all marriages, but there are clearly some couples who are making it work – and very well."
