Gucci Mr Porter: First look at the capsule collection
Creative director Alessandro Michele's 43-piece menswear range goes on sale tomorrow
Hot on the (cabochon-pearl studded) heels of last year's Gucci Net-a-Porter capsule collection comes its menswear alternative, courtesy of Alessandro Michele. Born in Rome, Michele joined Gucci as an accessory designer, before rising to the post of creative director in January 2015. The in-house appointment heralded a new golden era at the storied Italian luxury brand, as Michele's magpie collections fuse diverse influences and rediscover the brand's archives. Fabric innovation and surface detailing lie at the heart of this new Gucci and Michele's latest 43-piece capsule collection, which is exclusive to Mr Porter and available from tomorrow, follows suit. The fashion house's precious bestiary – most notably bee and tiger motifs – appear here as embroidered patches on the reverse of zipped jersey jackets and woven into detailed jacquard sweaters. Tailoring includes a three-piece suit made of soft jersey printed with collegiate stripes, tapered wool trousers with velvet detailing and Houndstooth jackets with navy taping. Five-pocket denim with embroidered tiger likenesses is worn best with classic Gucci horsebit loafers or a pair of of tan leather Donnie ankle boots.
