Perry’s lost loves
"I do have to figure out why I am attracted to these broken birds,” said Katy Perry.
Katy Perry has bad taste in men, said Vicki Woods in Vogue. In 2010, she married British comedian Russell Brand at an extravagant Hindu ceremony in India, complete with elephants, acrobats, jugglers, and drummers. “He’s a very smart man, and I was in love with him when I married him,” says Perry, 28. “Let’s just say I haven’t heard from [Brand] since he texted me saying he was divorcing me on Dec. 31, 2011.” The relationship failed, says the singer, because Brand had a backward view of marriage. “At first when I met him he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they’re like, ‘I can’t handle the equalness.’ He didn’t like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. That was really hurtful, and very controlling.” After the split, she fell for singer-songwriter John Mayer, who has a long track record of romancing—and dumping—beautiful celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston and Taylor Swift. “I was madly in love with him. I still am madly in love with him,” she says. “All I can say about that relationship is that [Mayer’s] got a beautiful mind. Beautiful mind, tortured soul. I do have to figure out why I am attracted to these broken birds.”
