1. Randy Jackson is leaving American Idol

If you've been watching Fox's American Idol this season, you've probably enjoyed all the bickering between judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey, which has occasionally been punctuated by a contestant singing a song. But American Idol viewers should prepare themselves for a major shakeup: According to The Wrap, current judges Carey, Minaj, Keith Urban, and Randy Jackson will all allegedly get the boot before the reality singing competition returns for its 13th season next fall. And sure enough, Jackson bowed out later in the afternoon in characteristic style, issuing the following statement: "Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season."

2. Snooki invited Chris Christie to be her workout buddy

For anyone who's spent the week hiding under a rock, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie recently had weight loss surgery. But if Governor Christie needs a buddy to hit the gym with, he has at least one high-profile fan who's agreed to fill the role: Jersey Shore alum Snooki, who tweeted her offer to Christie earlier this week. "happy to hear u want to lose weight! If u ever hit the gym & need a work out buddy, call me," wrote Snooki. Alas, she failed to offer a similar opportunity to tan or do laundry together.

3. Miley Cyrus says she met a g-g-g-ghost

Miley Cyrus became famous for living a double life as pop star Hannah Montana —but according to a recent interview, it's the afterlife that really interests her. The pop star told E! Online that she encountered a ghost in her bathroom while on tour in London. "It sounds crazy to tell you," admits Cyrus, which somehow didn't stop her from telling us anyway. "Maybe I'm crazy, but I could have sworn I could see this little boy sitting there on the sink, kicking his feet." Cyrus was never able to fully explain her paranormal encounter, but it sounds to us like she got the best of ghost worlds.

4. Rick Moranis is back, not making Ghostbusters 3 yet

For nearly 20 years, Honey I Shrunk the Kids star Rick Moranis has been absent from the pop-culture scene, having decided that "sitting around and enjoying my millions of dollars" was a better option than "playing a nerd in a bunch of Hollywood movies." But on Thursday, The Huffington Post delivered some very good news for Moranis' legions of fans: The actor has returned from his self-imposed exile with a music album titled My Mother's Brisket & Other Love Songs. Yes, it fall short of an announcement that they're finally making Ghostbusters 3, but it will at least give everyone an excuse to bug him about it again.

5. Americans are united in their dislike of Justin Bieber

In these tumultuous, polarized times, Americans need something we can all agree on. And Public Policy Polling has finally found it: Hating Justin Bieber! According to a recent poll that asked Americans their opinions about musicians, the teenaged singer was "the only artist who had a majority unfavorability rating across all party lines," which means that Republicans, Democrats, and Independents are all united in their dislike of the Biebs. Takeaway for aspiring politicians: Unless you're trying to reach that coveted "tween girl" voting bloc, there's no harm in running on an anti-Bieber platform.
