The best apps for runners
These apps will make your approach to running a little more scientific.
RunKeeper is a “feature-rich app that enables GPS tracking, distance, speed monitoring, caloric output, and activity history.” The data can be stored to an online account that also tracks your vital stats—weight, heart rate, etc. (Android, iPhone, and Windows)
iMapMyRun turns your phone “into a social training partner” by encouraging you to post results on Facebook or Twitter, as well as compete for prizes in posted challenges. (Android, BlackBerry, and iPhone)
SmartRunner is “a basic, easy-to-use alternative to more-complicated running apps.” It allows you to define “a time, distance, pace, or number of calories you want to burn.” This app also allows you to take a photo during your run and will pinpoint where you were on your route map. (All platforms)
