For a documentary about a newspaper, Andrew Rossi’s film is “oddly exciting,” said Salon.com. Shot mostly in 2010, when online competition was creating concern about the paper’s long-term viability, this company portrait offers a strong case for “the traditional values of journalism.”

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

(Disney, $25)

The latest in the Pirates franchise is “solidly made and even exciting at times,” said the Los Angeles Times. But even the star power of Johnny Depp and series newcomer Penélope Cruz can’t negate “a distinct ‘hanging around town after graduation’ vibe.”
