Show of the week: Falling Skies
Steven Spielberg's new science-fiction series is a worthy successor to such spectacles as War of the Worlds and Starship Troopers.
This new Steven Spielberg–produced science-fiction series starts off with a bang. When viewers drop in, an ongoing alien invasion of Earth has already wiped out most organized resistance. Noah Wyle stars as a history professor turned reluctant soldier, part of a ragtag band of insurgents battling arthropod-like “skitters” and clanking robot “mechs.” Intelligent writing, appealing characters, and high production values make the show a worthy successor to such military/sci-fi spectacles as War of the Worlds and Starship Troopers. Sunday, June 19, at 9 p.m., TNT
