Better than a steak bone?
New York City’s well-heeled dog owners can now bring their pets to a luxury spa and nightclub for canines. The 13,000-square-foot Fetch Club, in lower Manhattan, features an indoor lawn, a workout room, massage and aromatherapy facilities, and a range of high-end snacks including doggy sushi. At night, while their owners go to a movie or dinner, member dogs can tap their paws to the beat in a disco, complete with a mirrored ball. “Dogs in the city are a new breed,” said owner Peter Balestrieri. “They’ve become like humans.”

An online dating site for unattractive people is celebrating the first engagement of two of its members. British couple Tom Clifford, 36, and Janine Walker, 31, met on TheUglyBugBall.com, an international service catering to “aesthetically challenged” singles who “don’t always like what they see in the mirror.” After Clifford wrote that he has “a face that makes children cry,” they met and fell instantly in love. “I appreciate that Tom isn’t Brad Pitt,” said Walker, “but then I’m no Angelina Jolie either.”
Track star collides with deer, misses state finals
A Wisconsin high school track star lost the chance to compete in the state finals after colliding with a deer during a qualifying race. Cross-country runner Sarah Glidden was in the final stage of a 4,000-meter event last week when a deer bolted out of the trees. “Its hoofs kind of kicked me in the shin,” she says. Glidden was knocked off stride and finished 18th overall. On the bright side, she said, several hunters have since invited her on hunting trips, “because they say I’m a magnet for deer.”
