Show of the week: The Last Campaign of Governor Booth Gardner
A 2010 Oscar nominee for Best Documentary Short Subject, The Last Campaign of Governor Booth Gardner follows the former governor of Washington state on his quest to make assisted suicide legal.
Booth Gardner was a popular former governor of Washington state when he was diagnosed, in 1994, with Parkinson’s disease. Two years ago, Gardner unexpectedly re-entered public life to campaign for a bill that would legalize assisted suicide in the state. This film follows Gardner in what he calls “the biggest fight of my career”—as he battles both stiff opposition and his own symptoms to put “Initiative 1000” on the ballot and get it passed. A 2010 Oscar nominee for Best Documentary Short Subject. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m., HBO2
