Parents' group protests use of the word "democracy"
A conservative parents’ group is calling on a Utah school district to stop describing the U.S. as a “democracy.” The group, Utah’s Republic, objects to the Alpine School District’s saying that it educates students “to ensure the future of our democracy.” A democracy relies “solely on majority rule” and thus “is the road to socialism,” said group founder Oak Norton of Provo. The U.S. is a “republic,” he said, not a democracy.
