Allrecipes.com features more than 40,000 recipes. The site also provides “great video cooking tutorials” on how to choose ingredients or bring culinary “skills up to speed.”

Eatingwell.com offers recipes and ideas intended to make healthy eating more affordable. The site also includes a collection of “recipe makeovers,” which give hints for minimizing the fat and calorie content of meals.

Recipezaar.com features 365,000 user-generated recipes and nearly 25,000 “member-created” cookbooks.  The ­“Budget-Friendly” section offers ideas for low-cost meals. The “Once-a-Month” tool provides tips on cooking in bulk.

Epicurious.com offers recipes, how-to ­videos, and a “weeknight menu planner called ‘Dinner Rush,’” which features both meal ideas and recipes to make use of leftovers. The site‘s iPhone application includes a shopping list creator and recipe guide.
