Anna Nicole Smith’s doctors prescribed massive amounts of medication to help the former Playmate cope with the death of her son in 2006, according to court documents obtained by the Los Angeles Times. The documents say a psychiatrist and an internist treating Smith ordered 300 methadone tablets, two types of sedatives, a muscle relaxer, and four bottles of a painkiller nicknamed “hospital heroin.” One pharmacist who received the order refused to fill it, calling it “pharmaceutical suicide.” Smith died of an overdose five months later. The psychiatrist and internist have pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawfully prescribing controlled substances.
