Scottish singer Susan Boyle checked into a mental-health clinic this week after placing second in a TV talent competition that turned the unknown church volunteer into a global star. Boyle has been showing the strain of her sudden notoriety, cursing out persistent tabloid reporters with a string of F-bombs. When a dance group won the voting in the finals of Britain’s Got Talent, the visibly tense Boyle seemed relieved. A psychiatrist at the clinic said the “barrage of public comments about her looks, talent, and behavior from all over the world” was “incredibly intrusive.”
