Good Day, Bad Day

Power couples, good karma

GOOD DAY FOR: Power couples, as Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, Argentina’s sitting first lady and a longtime senator, won the country’s presidential election. The election was widely seen as a referendum on the popular center-left economic policies of her husband, President Nestor Kirchner. She will be Argentina’s first elected woman president. (Reuters)

BAD DAY FOR: Good karma, as Gap Inc. said it would destroy clothes from a New Delhi sweatshop that employed kids as young as 10 years old. London’s Observer reported the child labor yesterday, quoting children as saying they had been sold to the sweatshops by their family, worked up to 16-hour days, and weren’t paid. Gap said it would “forcefully reiterate” to all Indian suppliers that child labor is against company policy. (AP in Yahoo! Finance)
