GOOD DAY FOR: Centralized comedy, as Viacom is opening its archives of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show With Jon Stewart to Internet viewers, offering all 13,000 clips on a new, free Web site. The ad-supported site is a change of course for Viacom, which is suing YouTube for $1 billion for, among other things, allowing clips of The Daily Show to be aired online. BAD DAY FOR: Apple hijacks, as Apple said it will open its iPhone to third-party developers starting in February. Apple has experienced growing pains with the locked iPhone—some customers who “unlocked” the iPhone loudly complained that they ended up with dead “iBricks” when they tried to update the smart phone.
