Mexico City
In the largest cash seizure in the nation’s history, police in Mexico last week confiscated $206 million in U.S. currency from the hideout of a methamphetamine gang. Investigators discovered the money after tracing the path of an illegal shipment of pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient of methamphetamine, from India. The trail led to an apartment in a high-rent district of Mexico City, where the cash, mostly in $100 bills, was discovered hidden in walls, suitcases, and closets. Police arrested seven people, including two Chinese nationals. Mexican drug traffickers, authorities say, have extensive ties to Asian suppliers.
