Snowed over
The week's news at a glance.
Oswego, N.Y.
A massive winter storm pounded the northeastern U.S. this week, with some parts of western New York receiving up to 3 feet of snow. No place was harder hit than Oswego County, just east of Lake Ontario, where 10 days of snowfall earlier in the month dumped up to 12 feet in some areas. New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer mobilized the National Guard to help clear the snow and assist in any rescue efforts. Before moving into the Northeast, the storm tore through the Ohio Valley. In Ohio, a 9-year-old girl was killed by a falling tree limb.
