Bucky busted
The week's news at a glance.
Akeley, Pa.
Escaped fugitive Ralph “Bucky” Phillips was captured last week in northwestern Pennsylvania, ending a five-month manhunt. Phillips faces at least eight felony charges in New York, including charges related to the murder of New York State Trooper Joseph Longobardo, 32, during a traffic stop in August. He is also suspected in the shootings of two other state troopers, as well as in a series of thefts of cars and guns. Last April, Phillips, 44, escaped from a jail near Buffalo, where he was being held on a parole violation. “I’m just not cut out for the life you folks live,” he wrote to his lawyer shortly before he escaped. “I tried it, it didn’t work.”
