Moscow
A bomb went off in a Moscow market this week, killing 10 people and sending 50 to the hospital. Five of the dead were Chinese vendors while one was Vietnamese. Police said the blast was part of a turf war between rival market owners from Chechnya and East Asia. Many of Moscow’s large outdoor markets are run by criminal gangs, and disputes often lead to bombings or murders. Two years ago, two market directors were killed and another wounded. Earlier this year, the director of another Moscow market was killed, along with his wife and daughter.
