Saddam-inspired art
The week's news at a glance.
Middelkerke, Belgium
The mayor of a Belgian town has banned the exhibition of a Czech art installation that depicts a life-size Saddam Hussein, clad only in underpants, floating horizontally in a tank of liquid. Middelkerke Mayor Michel Landuyt said David Cerny’s sculpture, Saddam Hussein Shark, was inappropriate for his small beach town. “In my view, it was too shocking,” he said. The work, originally shown in Prague last year, will be rerouted to Ostend, a larger Belgian town.
