Deadly riots

Los Angeles
A riot between black and Hispanic inmates at a maximum security Los Angeles County jail left one prisoner dead and 100 injured this week. Authorities segregated the two groups after as many as 2,000 inmates clashed in a 30-minute mêlée that left a black prisoner, Wayne Robert Tiznor, dead. Despite a lockdown, another fight broke out the next day, with 10 people injured. Investigators said they did not know whether Tiznor, who was jailed a month ago for failing to register as a sex offender, had been singled out, but they said the fighting was fueled by racial tension and a feud between rival gangs.
