Bush orders ethics training
The week's news at a glance.
Washington, D.C.
President Bush last week ordered White House staff members to attend an ethics “refresher” course in the wake of the indictment of a senior official in the CIA leak case. The White House counsel’s office will conduct a series of briefings on everything from general ethics rules to the handling of classified information. Even top aides such as Karl Rove, Bush’s chief strategist and a target of the ongoing leak investigation, will have to attend, according to a memo sent to aides. “There will be no exceptions,” the memo said. I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney’s former chief of staff, resigned after being indicted. He pleaded not guilty last week to charges that he lied to investigators and a grand jury about his conversations with reporters.
