Mourners demand justice

The week's news at a glance.

Gonzaga, Brazil

Hundreds of Brazilians this week marched through the hometown of a Brazilian electrician mistaken for a terrorist and killed by London police. Demonstrators called on British authorities to arrest the officer who fired the fatal shots. The man, Jean Charles de Menezes, 27, was shot eight times in a subway station, under an order for officers to shoot to kill if they believe a terrorist is about to strike. Prime Minister Tony Blair has said he was “desperately sorry” for the tragedy, which came as police frantically tried to prevent a repeat of the bombings that struck the London transit system. But the protesters chanted, “Apologies don’t help, we want justice!”
