Naked cycling
The week's news at a glance.
London
About 100 people, naked but for their sneakers and helmets, bicycled through London last week to protest the use of fossil fuels. (Sunburn is not usually a problem in cloudy Britain.) Organizers said the event was intended to promote commuting by bike instead of by automobile; the nudity was merely a gimmick to ensure press coverage. The event, dubbed World Naked Bike Ride 2005, was observed on a smaller scale—a dozen or so riders—in Madrid and a handful of other cities.
