No diplomatic immunity
The week's news at a glance.
Antananarivo, Madagascar
A gang of robbers in Madagascar raided a French diplomat’s home this week. Masked men burst into the French deputy consul’s dining room during an elegant dinner party and made off with cash, jewelry, and cell phones. The guests—including James Bond, Madagascar director of the World Bank—meekly offered up their valuables, and no one was hurt. The Malagasy business community has been complaining for years about rampant criminal gangs, but this is the first time the diplomatic community has been targeted.
