Washington, D.C.
Former president Bill Clinton and his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, returned to the White House this week for the unveiling of their official portraits. “Welcome home,” President Bush said. Clinton said the warm reception showed even political rivals were “held together by this grand system of ours.” Bush—who once vowed to “restore honor and dignity” to the presidency after Clinton’s eight years—gave a glowing account of Clinton’s accomplishments, and joked about the release in a few days of the former president’s memoir, My Life. “I could tell you more of the story,” Bush said, “but it’s coming out in fine bookstores all over America.”
