Pizza strike falls flat

An Italian consumer-rights group held a one-day boycott of pizza and pasta dishes last weekend to protest high prices, which they blame on the introduction of the euro. Protesters said the price of a pizza shot up 20 percent, to five euros (about $5), during the currency changeover. The strike appeared to have little impact on pizza and pasta consumption. “I would never give up eating pizza, no matter what the price is,” said 62-year-old retiree Giorgio Marcelli.
