New York
The New York City medical examiner this week released a list of the 2,819 people believed to have been killed in the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center. The city compiled the list so the names of the victims could be read aloud by relatives and dignitaries during a ceremony at ground zero on the anniversary of the attack. The medical examiner said names might be added or stricken later, but the tally was the most comprehensive accounting to date of the human toll of the suicide hijackings. The list included an age breakdown, which showed that 30-somethings accounted for the greatest concentration of the dead. Four victims were over 80, and six were under the age of 5. The children were passengers on the hijacked planes.
