Budapest
Hungary’s national police force got new uniforms this week intended to make them look more modern. The old uniforms, inherited from the communist era, were military-style, with round, flat hats and drab coloring. The new ones have neon-yellow vests and sporty blue jackets, topped by baseball caps. In a nod to the Western look, shoulder bands that show an officer’s rank now feature sheriff stars.
